The Monster Energy Supercross series has canceled this weekend’s round at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium “in accordance with restrictions on travel and group gatherings amid COVID-19 concerns.” The race was scheduled to run on March 14.
This comes on the heels of an announcement yesterday that Round 13 in Seattle, scheduled to run March 28, would be canceled because of a ban on gatherings of 250 or more people in the state of Washington by Gov. Jay Inslee.
The cancelation of Round 11 of the Supercross season comes on the same day that NASCAR announced they will run their next two races without fans in attendance and as Formula 1 canceled its season opener in Australia.
An announcement concerning Round 12 of the Supercross season in Detroit, scheduled for March 21, has not yet been made.
Currently more than 1,600 cases have been confirmed in the United States with 40 deaths. Indiana has 13 confirmed cases, but no deaths from the virus.
Fans are directed to the outlets where they purchased tickets for refunds.
